Riverbank Protection Design Project
full-time
structural designer
Chi river is one of the main rivers in north eastern region in Thailand. Erosion has caused its geometry to change for several years, leading to personal loss and property loss of local residents. Therefore, this project was implemented to protect slope erosion and increase slope stability.
Project Duration
17 April 2018 – 10 July 2019
Contract Value
THB 40.0 Million (Approx. USD 1.3 Million)
Project Owner
Department of Public Works and Town Planning, Ministry of Interior, Thailand.
Main Contractor
VSPS Engineering co., ltd.
Accomplishment
Similar to border riverbank protection survey and design project phase 7. I was assigned to calculate slope stability calculation and select slope protection type; check drawings; cooperate with authority and main design company, under guidance of supervisor.
The project comprises with 8 riverbank protections. The longest one is 1,037 m. All of them use changing geometry as slope stabilization; hand-placed riprap revetment as erosion protection; dumped rock rip rap as slope protection; and rock filled mattress as toe protection. Three of them reinforce slop stability with piles and one uses vertical piles with battered piles as retaining structure.
Challenge
This project has done design process since 2019. However, annual construction budget for fiscal year 2020 had already met its limit, so the project must be adjusted length and estimated price in 2020 for fiscal year 2021. Consequently, I had to recheck calculation sheet and drawing, prepared required documents for annual budget meeting.
